Exhibitor Notes & Boxoffice Estimate - MARRY ME (PG13)

Updated: Feb 23, 2022

Published Jan. 19, 2022

Synopsis

Distributor: Universal | Release Date: 2/11/22 | Run Time: 113 Minutes

Music superstars Kat Valdez and Bastian are getting married before a global audience of fans. But when Kat learns, seconds before her vows, that Bastian has been unfaithful, she decides to marry Charlie, a stranger in the crowd, instead.

Screening Notes

Total rom-com movie that follows the time-tested simple formula…in a lighthearted, humorous plot, boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy finds girl again. It was sure quite a stretch for Jennifer Lopez to play a super-star pop diva and for Owen Wilson to play a warm, friendly, likable guy with subtle humor. Setting aside shameless sarcasm, this PG13 movie worked and was a mindless 113 minutes of fun. Jennifer Lopez CAN dance, sing, act and is beautiful; Owen Wilson is ALWAYS likeable, funny and is not handsome. Guests likely won’t remember the film the next day but will leave the theatre feeling good.

Boxoffice Estimate

The top 10 grossing romantic comedies, released January thru March, have averaged a $27.2M opening weekend gross; similar films starring Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson, have averaged a $20.7M opening. Taking both these facts, plus the projected early-Feb state of COVID, my thinking is this film will open to $13.6M and go on to gross around $38.7M…
