Screening Notes

Few things light up the big screen quite like a well-crafted family film on a holiday weekend! Maia Kealoha gives an endearing and sweet performance as Lilo; Zach Galifianakis and Billy Magnussen deliver slapstick-funny; and a zany-crazy Stitch brings plenty of mayhem. All mixes well together in a good old-fashion Disney family film. The live action will keep adults entertained and kids will relate to Lilo and love the total chaos. The film is exhausting, but in the best way, providing some tearful moments, and ultimately landing with a feel-good payoff that will leave audiences smiling.

Boxoffice Estimate

The original animated Lilo & Stitch debuted 23 years ago to $35M ($63M in 2025 dollars), and those original fans are now parents, creating built-in cross-generational appeal. It's a similar setup to Minecraft, which opened just 49 days ago to a massive $163M and benefitted from a nostalgic base. Lilo & Stitch is well-positioned in a packed late May/early June calendar. With Karate Kid (PG-13) skewing older the following weekend, Lilo should have a clear three-week runway with younger families until How to Train Your Dragon lands on June 13.

Current projection modeling points to a $124M opening, with a likely range between $111M and $136M. If the anticipated 90+ audience score holds, strong word-of-mouth could drive a robust 3.3x multiplier, landing the film between $364M and $444M in domestic total. That would make Lilo & Stitch a top-tier performer—opening +273% above the nine-year average for PG-rated May releases, +221% above the average Memorial Day debut, and contending for the #1 or #2 title of the summer.
