Exhibitor Notes & Boxoffice Estimate - 80 FOR BRADY (PG13)

Writer: Frank RashFrank Rash

Published Jan 11, 2022

Synopsis

Distributed by: Paramount | Release Date: 2/3/23 | Run Time: 98 Minutes

Comedy. Four best friends live life to the fullest when they embark on a wild trip to see their hero, Tom Brady, play in the 2017 Super Bowl.....Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Sally Field, Rita Moreno, Tom Brady

Screening Notes

No doubt about the street cred of this cast…between the four stars, they have a large warehouse full of Oscars, Golden Globes, Emmy’s, Kennedy Center Honors, Tony’s, Grammy’s, Presidential Medals of Freedom, and Life Achievements. 80 for Brady is NOT a critically acclaimed, deep-thought masterpiece, but these ladies bring their talents and deliver a very simple, straightforward comedy. Audiences (particularly an older demo) will appreciate the banter and silliness…oh, and Tom Brady is a good sport playing, well, Tom Brady.

Boxoffice Estimate

Fabelmans, Devotion, Man Called Otto, and Fathom’s latest stable of faith-based content (The Chosen, Heard the Bells, Left Behind) have shown us the older-demo is ready to return to theatres…if the content is appealing. 80 for Brady is appealing. If true, the film should lay some nice groundwork for similar titles on the upcoming slate…Maybe I Do (1/27), Moving On (3/17) and Book Club II (5/12).

Modeling suggests an opening weekend totaling $11.4M, with a range between $10M and $13M. The anticipated 3.6x opening weekend multiple should lead to a total gross estimate of between $36M and $45M. For context, the projected opening is 2.4x greater than the set of Comparative titles, less than 50% of the Average Feb opening, and very much in line with PG13 comedies opening in Feb over the last 5 years.
