Exhibitor Notes & Boxoffice Estimate - SNOW WHITE (PG)

Published Mar 12, 2025

Synopsis

Distributed By: Disney | Release Date: 3/21/25 | Run Time: 109 Minutes

Family. A live-action musical re-imagining of the classic 1937 film..…Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, Andrew Burnap

Screening Notes

Snow White is likely THE most sacred of Disney’s intellectual property, so of course they are going to handle it with care and the result is a wonderful retelling which stays pretty true to the original 1937 classic…right down to Bashful, Doc, Dopey and the rest of the gang riding on the backs of forest animals as they come to her rescue. But unfortunately, we also need to visit about the “elephant in the room”. Over the past several years, Disney has faced some unfair social media backlash for embracing diverse perspectives and reimaging beloved classics like Little Mermaid and now, Snow White. Storytelling has never been about standing still…it’s about growth, creativity, and reflecting the world around us. I don’t view Disney’s commitment to inclusive stories as having some kind of an “agenda”, it’s about ensuring their wonderful stories evolve and continue to connect with people, generation after generation…just as they have successfully done since 1923. Sadly, Snow White grosses will likely be somewhat impacted by small, but vocal groups, that are offended a Latina was cast in the title role, or how the “dwarves” are characterized, or that there are sexist undertones…” well, haters gonna hate” but everyone else will really enjoy this movie. Singing, dancing, a princess, an evil stepmother, lovable quirky sidekicks…you just can’t get more Disney than this.

Boxoffice Estimate

Early National Research Group (NRG) tracking shows Snow White with an 88 awareness score and a 16 first-choice rating. Based on data from over 260 recent releases, those numbers suggest an opening weekend in the $72M range. Audiences love classic Disney fairytale magic, so word of mouth should be positive.

Our projection models point to a $62M opening, with a likely range between $56 and $88M; the tragedy is, absent the “haters” and their wacky upheaval dragging like a boat anchor, this film deserves to be a solid $75M to $85M opening. The multiple is still expected to be a reasonable 2.9x, yielding a final gross between $165M and $200M. If these projections hold, Snow White will open +40% more than the average March release for a PG film over the past nine years.  Note, Mufasa and Wonka only opened to $35M and $39M, respectively, and went on to top $200M each.
