Screening Notes
Brendan Frasier! It’s remarkable to think this is the same guy who once grunted his way through Encino Man and George of the Jungle…he’s come a long way from loincloths and Rental Family continues his graceful career renaissance that began with his Oscar-winning turn in The Whale. The storyline is beautiful, the cinematography is beautiful, the acting is beautiful. Audiences will feel good from beginning to end, and the film will linger on their minds. The film has earned a glowing 96% RT Critics Score, expect Audiences to respond with equal enthusiasm…positive word-of-mouth will be the films greatest asset.
Boxoffice Estimate
With Running Man and Now You See Me opening Nov 14, followed by Wicked: For Good on Nov 21, and Zootopia 2 on Nov 26, it’s easy for a “smaller” film like Rental Family to get smothered by the more high-profile titles leading into the Thanksgiving holiday. The understated marketing campaign will make this more of a “discovery” title. Critics have crowned the film with a 96% and the Audience Score will be in the same range. A heartfelt quality option for moviegoers seeking something other than the season’s bigger name titles.
My modeling suggests a $5M opening weekend, with a range between $4M and $6M. On the brightside, positive word-of-mouth should carry the title beyond the opening weekend, delivering an estimated 4.7x multiple and a domestic total in the $22M to $27M range.
