Screening Notes

Eternity is a smart, feel-good piece of holiday counterprogramming. The storyline is very clever and while it features the familiar ingredients of a rom-com—romance, humor, charm—this isn’t a simple, mindless rom-com…the film delivers depth to the ideas of second chances and the unexpected ways relationships evolve. The PG-13 rating is a key asset, widening the target audience and appealing to adults and older moviegoers looking for something uplifting but not cheesy.

Boxoffice Estimate

Timing is Eternity’s biggest challenge. Thanksgiving is a huge moviegoing holiday week but opening against Wicked: For Good and Zootopia 2—two massive, headline-commanding releases—will almost certainly suppress Eternity’s opening numbers. Hopefully, moviegoers don’t mistake that for a lack of appeal. This is a fun, crowd-pleaser, that once the initial rush to the bigger titles settles, I’m rooting for Eternity to benefit from strong word-of-mouth and the post-holiday search for the next feel-good title…the movie deserves to be found. Early Critics reviews are in the 85% range, which is where Audience Scores will likely fall.

A24 is a very successful, indie powerhouse, known for critically acclaimed films, with a targeted promotional approach vs mass market campaign... Eternity’s more subdued marketing plan is reflected in National Research Group (NRG) tracking, which currently yields only a 38 Awareness score…hence the need for audience discovery.

Internal modeling suggests a $6.7M opening weekend, with a range between $6.0M and $7.3M. Positive word-of-mouth should help deliver an estimated 3.3x multiple and a domestic total in the $20M to $24M range.
