WHAT WE DO
Theatre Booking Services (“TBS”), and its independent theatre partners, are part of one of the most recognizable industries in the world…
-
Our Product is a motion picture, the world’s greatest storytelling medium
-
Our Partners are independent theatres owned and operated by private companies, city governments, public school districts, colleges and universities, and community-owned non-profit organizations
-
Our Job is to provide professional film buying services that acquires content from Hollywood studios and brings it to their screens
Each week since 1975, we have intelligently put our industry experience to work reviewing all available content, scrutinizing projected boxoffice expectations and researching comparable titles for each theatre, in order to book content that will deliver maximum revenue opportunities to our partners.
We are always strong advocates for independent theatre owners, negotiating the best possible scheduling and business terms with film distributors and providing our partners with advisory services.
OUR MISSION
We understand the best thing we can do to make sure our partners and their communities continue to thrive, is help them generate strong financial performance…even not-for-profit organizations need to generate revenue.
We believe our relationship with independent theatre owners is a partnership, and doing our part means providing our clients with the best content available, at the best terms available; and sharing insights, information, analysis and data in support of them operating a successful and consumer-relevant business. We are guided by four principles: work together, encourage each other, communicate regularly, and have fun!

OUR INDUSTRY
TBS, and its independent theatre partners, are part of one of the greatest, most recognizable industries in the world. Our product is a motion picture, the world’s greatest storytelling medium, and it changes every week.
2024 was off to a bit of a wobbly start, but with a super slate of titles over the summer, and a great end of year rally, we topped $8.7B…-3% behind last year but more than the $8.5B projected.
The year produced 5 titles opening to $100M or greater, including Inside Out 2 becoming the all-time highest grossing animated film, Deadpool the highest grossing R-rated title, and Moana 2 becoming Disney’s best Thanksgiving opening on record…animated films accounted for an eye-popping +25% of the industry’s total gross.
Despite the great summer, we entered Q4 trailing last year by a depressing -12%...then the afterburners kicked in with Thanksgiving Weekend surging past ‘18 by +28% to become the all-time highest grossing, then, as an encore, December outgrossed ‘23 by +35%, bringing Q4 to a close +19% greater than last year.
2024 was to be our post-COVID rebound year, but we fell victim to a 148-day Writers Guild strike in late ‘23, setting back production schedules (again); the number of wide release titles lagged ‘19 by -19%, which is not-coincidently close to the -22% the year’s gross still trailed ’19…if we have content, we have moviegoers.
Looking to Q1’25, key titles in the lineup include, Flight Risk, Dog Man, Paddington in Peru, Captain America: Brave New World, Snow White, and Working Man…and let’s not forget the holiday afterglow still lingering from Mufasa: Lion King and Sonic 3.
Other titles to keep a close eye on in Q1 include, Autumn and the Black Jaguar, Brave the Dark, Last Breath, an all-new Looney Tunes movie featuring Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd, and Unbreakable Boy.
Early analyst projections point to ‘25 circling $9.5B, a very healthy +10% increase over ‘24.

IMPORTANT INDUSTRY RESOURCES
WHO WE ARE
About Us
TBS has been providing professional film buying and advisory services to independent theatre owners since 1975. We recognize and take seriously the important role our partner’s theatre plays in contributing to the livelihood of their community and family.
For guests attending independently owned theatres, the experience is about MORE than just the movie, it represents an audience full of neighbors and friends, showing up every Saturday night, even if they aren’t especially excited about what’s on screen; sure, the movie is important, but an evening-out at these theatres represents so much more.
