WHAT WE DO
Theatre Booking Services (“TBS”), and its independent theatre partners, are part of one of the most recognizable industries in the world…
-
Our Product is a motion picture, the world’s greatest storytelling medium
-
Our Partners are independent theatres owned and operated by private companies, city governments, public school districts, colleges and universities, and community-owned non-profit organizations
-
Our Job is to provide professional film buying services that acquires content from Hollywood studios and brings it to their screens
Each week since 1975, we have intelligently put our industry experience to work reviewing all available content, scrutinizing projected boxoffice expectations and researching comparable titles for each theatre, in order to book content that will deliver maximum revenue opportunities to our partners.
We are always strong advocates for independent theatre owners, negotiating the best possible scheduling and business terms with film distributors and providing our partners with advisory services.
OUR MISSION
We understand the best thing we can do to make sure our partners and their communities continue to thrive, is help them generate strong financial performance…even not-for-profit organizations need to generate revenue.
We believe our relationship with independent theatre owners is a partnership, and doing our part means providing our clients with the best content available, at the best terms available; and sharing insights, information, analysis and data in support of them operating a successful and consumer-relevant business. We are guided by four principles: work together, encourage each other, communicate regularly, and have fun!
OUR INDUSTRY
TBS and its independent theatre partners are part of one of the greatest, most recognizable industries in the world. Our product is a motion picture, the world’s greatest storytelling medium, and it changes every week.
Thru 8 weeks of 2026, the domestic box office story is one of steady progress with a few caution flags worth watching. February is currently pacing about –9% vs. last year, but January’s strong +15% start has more than offset the dip, keeping year-to-date box office up roughly +5% thru the end of February…and we crossed over the $1B mark.
The number of wide releases is up +15% vs. last year and tracking at roughly 94% of 2019 levels, which is encouraging. However, the flip side is that the average opening weekend gross has fallen -31% to $12.4M. More titles are coming to market, but fewer seem to be breaking out in a meaningful way ― my sense is a lack of “awareness”, which is a marketing issue.
On a trailing basis, the rolling 12-month boxoffice total stands at $8.9B, up modestly (+0.5%) versus where we closed 2025. That’s essentially flat growth — but importantly, it’s holding. Stability matters after the volatility of the past few years.
Looking over the next 90 days, we should get a nice boost from Hoppers, Project Hail Mary, Super Mario Galaxy, Sheep Detectives, Michael, Devil Wears Prada 2, and Mandalorian & Grogu…these titles alone are expected to generate over $1.5B.

IMPORTANT INDUSTRY RESOURCES
WHO WE ARE
About Us
TBS has been providing professional film buying and advisory services to independent theatre owners since 1975. We recognize and take seriously the important role our partner’s theatre plays in contributing to the livelihood of their community and family.
For guests attending independently owned theatres, the experience is about MORE than just the movie, it represents an audience full of neighbors and friends, showing up every Saturday night, even if they aren’t especially excited about what’s on screen; sure, the movie is important, but an evening-out at these theatres represents so much more.
